Lazy J Custom Pedals & Vintage Amp Service
I’m Jesse Hoff (Lazy J) and I specialize in working with musicians to help them get the best from their equipment.

I have lived in many different places both in Europe and the US making my living partly as a musician and partly as an amp doctor. In all these different places I found myself working with fellow musicians on their specific ideas about their tone and equipment.

Someone needed a switching system, which would allow them to use their equipment more efficiently. Someone else wanted a certain type of preamp or distortion pedal…

…and so I started building pedals for fellow musicians.

I designed Power Supplies, Reverb Modules, Attenuators, Specialized D.I. boxes, Boosters, Overdrives etc… I also built modified copies of classic pedals such as Fuzz Faces, Tube Screamers, Rat pedals, Dallas Rangemasters… …always tailoring each pedal to its user and trying to make it the best it could be.

Most of the musicians I worked with told me that their big frustration had been that they couldn’t find anyone in their area who would work with them in their quest for tone. While most Techs are electronically savvy, they often don’t have a musical background. Therefore they are sometimes at a loss when it comes to dealing with musicians and the tonal subtleties they are trying to achieve.

It has always been my goal to bridge this gap. As a professional musician I am drawing on over 20 years experience to better understand musicians and their pursuit of better tone.

Whether you’re a professional player or you’re just starting out, I will be glad to listen to your ideas, and help you on the way to achieving them.
