Can you make me a booster…?
I need a certain kind of A/B box that I can’t seem to find anywhere…
I want to be able to plug other instruments into my Leslie…
The Output of my Memory Man is too low…
True Bypass, Led Status indicators…
More fatness from a tube screamer…
Can my pedal be modified to have True Bypass…
All that and loads more are questions and ideas I hear all the time. Every musician in the world seems to be thinking about ways to improve and diversify their sound.
So it’s good to know that amps and pedals can often be personalized to fit certain styles and situations better.
It’s not a new concept. Reportedly Roger Mayer forever modified Jimi Hendrix’ equipment to fit a certain song or a certain need…Cesar Diaz doctored SRV’s pedals…
As a result of many years as a professional musician and all those years of interacting with other players I have built and modified many pedals.
Originally, when I built pedals from scratch, I generally used Hammond type boxes, like the typical MXR type boxes. I didn’t paint or label them because the people I built them for didn’t care about that. They were happy to get a solid pedal with quality components that did what they wanted it to do…plus, a lot of them told me that they quite liked the obscurity of an plain looking, unpainted pedal.
Upon request I will still build pedals like this.
Now that I am making my pedals more widely available I wanted to settle on a look while still retaining the custom built aspect. I’ve always loved the blonde Fender amp era…you know, that oxblood grille cloth with the cream knobs. So when it came to painting the pedals I instantly thought of that.
As before, I use Carling switches, Switchcraft jacks, good pots, quality components all around…except that these pedals are painted and labelled now.
All my pedals have True Bypass and have an LED Status Indicator.
So if it’s tone that you’re after get in touch with me. I’ll be glad to try and help you get the sound you envisage.
.. more coming soon
